Introduction
India is an exotic land with a unique culture and a long history of civilization, but she also houses some of the largest slums in the world.
With a population of slightly over 1 billion people (July 2004 est.), India has a labor force of 470 million people. Yet, an estimate of 260 million people earn below the poverty line, and there is an unemployment rate of 9.1%. That makes 43 million people jobless!
It is with these facts and figures in mind that we are keen to do our part in economically and spiritually equipping the poor of India.
